When people refer to the Heard Islands and McDonald Islands as "uninhabited," of course they mean BY PEOPLE. So these incredible wildlife havens, when included in the U.S. list of places to be tariffed, saw a unique entrepreneurial start-up, by PENGUINS. Maybe they felt like the beleaguered people of the distant U.S. needed their support. They created a product that could provide funding, via the additional consumer tax, as a worthwhile investment in the ruling billionaires (via tax cuts) whose social and ecological educations need bolstering.

These at-risk islands managed by Australia provide key habitat for elephant seals, macaroni penguins and sperm whales. Fur seals, albatross and other seabird species also strongly depend on this region for survival. The Patagonian toothfish, a species at risk from industrial fishing, counts on the waters in the area for its breeding grounds. The macaroni, eastern rockhopper, gentoo, and king penguins, iconic and ecologically important species, use local pebbles for nest-building, flirting, and entertaining chicks. They have decided the time is ripe for joining the world economy and are willing to share their pebbles. Below is a digital pebble purchased in support of their efforts.

Local penguins--and friends--have launched the online business Heard Island Pebbles, and all proceeds (not the tariffs though) are being donated to World Wildlife Fund (Australia). Additional fun thing for purchasers: from their Shop page, scrolling locations for all the people around the world who are investing in wildlife and these valuable habitats. Following the penguins' lead, people are demonstrating our learning about how to participate in this one grand Planetary life we share.
